Nutrition is a vital part of preparation for a motorsport-athlete that many still down play. A weekends racing or testing can be viewed as an athletic event that requires multiple vigorous performances each day that strain you physically and mentally. To quote a classic analogy ‘Nutrition is the body’s fuel’. Don’t put enough fuel in the car, it stops early. Put the wrong fuel mixture through the engine, it doesn’t perform to its best. Failing to consume the appropriate nutrition (i.e. eating the right foods at the right time) will result in the same outcome for the driver and a long hard weekend for all those involved.
What you eat and when you eat it can have a massive impact on how effective your training is and your physical and psychological ability to perform (not to mention how much it can do to help you concentrate when working!). It is therefore essential that your diet is as well organised as your training.
However, even with the best advice and intentions it can be hard and time consuming to create meals that actually synchronise with your targets. Unless you are a nutritionist or enthusiast that has spent a long time adopting trial and error in an attempt to stumble across something that works.
